Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers and mild winters, separated by brief spring and autumn seasons. The ideal climate combined with a supremely healthy diet and outdoor way of life make Cyprus the perfect place for healthy living. There are an abundance of winter swimmers and divers in Cyprus due to the mild year-round sea temperatures which range from 27 to 16ºC. The underwater coastal reefs teem with a wide variety of fish, octopus, mussels, prawns, sponges, coral and sea anemones. The island has two large mountain ranges which are surrounded by coastal valleys where the soil is ideal for agriculture. In fact arable land constitutes 46.8% of Cyprus’ total land area! Cyprus is a renowned exporter of many fruits and vegetables, meaning that there is an abundance of fresh available produce. The Mediterranean diet, with its grains and pulses, sun-ripened fruit and vegetables, high-protein fish, lean meat and poultry and wine is not only delicious but supremely healthy as well. Cyprus offers an abundance of leisure pursuits from golf, diving and tennis to water sports, horse riding, cycling and hiking. It’s the ideal place for the whole family to partake in activities that promote good health. There is no water pollution, meaning that tap water is perfectly safe to drink across the island and the air quality is excellent. According to scientists there is a direct link between air quality and human health. Air pollution is considered to be responsible for many respiratory disorders and even deaths. Children and older adults together with sufferers of heart and lung illnesses are the most vulnerable to these pollutants, particularly those that have long-term exposure. Fortunately, being an island with very limited industry, with an abundance of green space and all-round proximity to the sea, Cyprus’ air is invariably clear of chemical pollutants. No wonder Cyprus is a such a popular destination for those looking to relocate or purchase a second home!!
